James Heather on tracking down & recording the perfect piano
James Heather recently spoke with Composer Magazine about the writing and recording of his second album.
“I went to every piano shop in London that I could find – I would play every piano in the room and take notes.”
For his latest album ‘Invisible Forces‘ , James wanted to find the perfect piano to share his story. Testing more than a hundred pianos in search of the perfect sound, he finally landed on a Viennese Bosendorfer built in 1913. It’s the only instrument used on the album , amplified by recording interchangeably with a pair of C414 XLS and a pair of Extinct Audio BM9 Ribbon Microphones.
