Kris Ragnstam from They Owe Us talks about Extinct Audio on the Brian Funk podcast
Kristopher Ragnstam is the creative force behind They Owe Us, a rock/alternative/electronic band from Sweden. Kris recently released the band’s new album, Kram, to much critical acclaim.
Kris sat down with Brian Funk for their second talk on Brian’s podcast. They discussed how he manages to balance the raw energy of musical performance while maintaining a certain level of polish. They cover philosophical approaches to gear choice, including Kris’ healthy “headache” mixing console and his 2006 computer. Kris also talks about collaborating with others and the importance of keeping a healthy relationship with bandmates.
At about 20mins into the podcast Kris talks about his Extinct Audio ribbon microphones.
“We sound checked every microphone, and then when it came to the stereo Extinct microphone he said, ‘what’s that?!?’, and I told him, it’s a British ribbon microphone. He went online and bought it right that very moment – Boom! I need that! So that’s his sound now also.”
“Extinct ribbon microphones from the UK. I do have a lot of ribbon microphones, but they stand out I think. They have something unique with their sound, it’s by far one of the best ribbon microphones I’ve recorded with. It’s an amazing microphone!”
